By Barbara Jorgen Nance

Some days stories just show up, like wild horses to water. The stampede kicks up a lot of dust and when the dust settles, the GÇ£Gift of StoryGÇ¥ is left behind on the desert floor. Well really, it's left behind on my house floor, but at times, you can't tell the difference between it and the great outdoors. A herd of wild horses would have to dodge all the dust bunnies in the house. We could pitch a tent out back, live in it and the floor would look about the same.

It makes one wonder how many dust fairies dance around one's house at night while we all sleep. Or maybe the dust fairies ride in on wild horseback and they all throw a big shindig in the dust bowl of Barbara's house. The floor never appears to be the same floor I saw before I went to bed. Hmmm?

I have many mundane excuses for the over population of bunnies in my house. I live in the country. In fact, I live on Country Road, which is a dirt road. We live in the desert, where the wind blows, a lot! I have three rescue dogs that have their own doggie door, which enables them to bring home dusty surprises from the great outdoors. Perhaps the dogs pick-up more hitch-hiking dust bunnies than I realize? That would be an easier explanation than a wild horse stampede. Or, is it those dust fairies?

Why does spring cleaning begin in the windy season of the year? Who came up with that big idea? The only advantage I can think of is opening the front and back doors to the house and let the wind blow all the dust bunnies right back out onto the desert landscape.

Or perhaps I should be focusing on the wild horse stampede. For when the dust settles, that's when we'll find the Gift of Story that is left behind.
Ponder on.
