When I went to the Silver City Woman's Club to vote on Tuesday about 11 a.m., the nice lady registering in voters mentioned they had already had about 100 people come into the polls that morning. She actually seemed pleased by that number. I'll admit we didn't have any Trumps or Clintons running for the school board, but there were tax initiatives on the ballot and there were people running for School Board seats. Gosh, 100 people... that could have been just family members of some of the candidates. I simply have a hard time understanding why people do not vote. Do they believe their vote doesn't really count? Are we so complacent as a society that we simply don't care? Whether you are a registered Republican, Democrat, or an Independent... every election is your opportunity as a citizen to make your voice heard.

Speaking of making your voice heard, right now there are two separate surveys that I am aware of for citizens in Grant County. Officials with Grant County have a link to a community survey on the county's website - www.grantcountynm.com . It's not very long and took me about 4 minutes to complete. This Saturday there will be people at Walmart, Albertson's and other retail stores asking people to complete the survey. Please stop for a few minutes to fill out this fairly short questionnaire. There are a couple of blank spaces where you can place comments. Be honest... don't sugar-coat your answers... tell county officials what you think.

The Town of Silver City also has a survey titled Silver City Strong. We have this survey posted on the Chamber of Commerce Facebook page and it is on the Grant County Republicans Facebook page. Both survey links will be listed within the Chamber of Commerce newsletter this Friday. Please give our government officials your feedback as they develop their comprehensive plans for the future of our area.

This past week, the Chamber of Commerce premiered our latest tool for marketing the area at the Grant County Day Legislative Reception at Santa Fe. We are very appreciative that the Grant County Prospectors allowed us to use their event as our kick-off to show the community this outstanding display. Hopefully we will be allowed to set it up for the public at some big gathering in the near future... like the open hose to show off the newly remodeled Grant County Conference Center. I can't believe I didn't take a picture of the display. But I was so worried about making sure it worked properly, I didn't think to take a picture. Duh!

We have a new intern working at the Chamber of Commerce office. Devan Garcia is a sophomore at Western New Mexico University, working toward a Business Administration/Marketing degree. So when you call our office and you hear a pleasant young lady's voice instead of mine... it's okay, you dialed the right number.
