It said that if you aren't enjoying your job, why do you have that job. There's no doubt there are days I would like to call in sick, but usually by about 10:30 a.m. something has happened to perk me up. By the end of the day, several things have happened that remind me why I like my job.

Speaking of fun, the folks at J&J Signs get the "PRANK OF THE YEAR" award. There has been so much scuttlebutt about wanting Denny's, not wanting Denny's, Denny's isn't coming, the Denny's property is contaminated... and then John and his group put up banners about Madame Millie's Authentic Old Western Brothel Gentlemen's Club. It was great! I was actually stopped by a nice young woman in Albertson's the evening the banners went up. She wanted to know what I knew about it. J&J Signs... you definitely started something. Start planning for next year.

We want to welcome a new chamber member: Farmers Insurance - Seawolf Agency. Owner Ruth Seawolf will be celebrating the opening of her new insurance agency this Saturday - April 8 from 10:30 a.m. to Noon. The ribbon cutting will be held at 10:30 a.m. Stop by and congratulate Ruth and her staff. The office is located at 301 West College - Suite 6 in Silver City. You can call Farmers Insurance - Seawolf Agency at (575) 388-2257.

The Chamber of Commerce is assisting with two other ribbon cutting events. This Friday - April 7 at 11:00 a.m., we will host a ribbon cutting celebrating the Grand Opening of Elemental Artisans. This is a new custom, hand-made jewelry and photography shop located at 406-B Bullard Street in Silver City. Owners Ken Silagy and Nina Dillard recently moved here from Pennsylvania. We hope you will stop by to say welcome, and check out the beautiful work they do on rings, necklaces, pendants and more. The phone number for Elemental Artisans is (215) 593-6738.

Then on Wednesday - April 19, we will assist with a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the grand opening of the full-service, on-site HMS Pharmacy located at 1007 North Pope Street in Silver City.

So yes, we're having lots of fun. And if these items were not enough, we are busy with Fourth of July plans. We already have people turning in applications for vendor booth spaces and applying to be in the parade. The Town of Silver City is working toward a great First American Bank Fireworks Show. And yes, July 4th will be fun!

Heck, we even have Alfredo Ontiveros (Gila Regional Medical Center Interim CEO) and Raul Turrieta (Grant County Assessor) speaking at our April Lunch Meeting on Thursday - April 6. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the information shared with the Chamber members will be somewhat fun.

And then we are planning for more fun in the future. If things progress well and a contract is signed with Grant County, our Chamber of Commerce office will move to the Grant County Veteran's Memorial Business & Conference Center, and we will manage the rental and use of the building for the Grant County administration.

We will also host a training session titled "Email Etiquette" on Monday - April 10 from 2:30 to 5 p.m. at Watts Hall (corner of Swan Street and Highway 180 East in Silver City). It's free! Call 538-3785 to register.

So you are invited to join the fun with us. Come to some of our events. Participate in the parade or activities at Gough Park during the Independence Day Celebration. Join the Chamber of Commerce... our office is located in Watts Hall at the corner of Swan Street and Highway 180 East in Silver City or we can come to you.
