You remember those old cowboy movies where the cowboy would be riding a horse and singing to the cows while a coyote howled in the distance. And lots of times those old cowboy songs included a little yodeling. So once I knew I was the only person in the building, I went into the large ballroom at the conference center. I stood on the stage... and I began yodeling. I didn't hear in coyotes in the building, but there may have been some howling outside. I just didn't sound as good as those singing cowboys did in the old movies. Heck, I think I'll blame it on the acoustics rather than my voice. I'll just have to go home and pop in the John Wayne movie Rio Grande. The regimental singers are pretty good in that movie.

Well this Thursday, June 8, you will have a great opportunity to see the newly remodeled Grant County Veteran's Memorial Business & Conference Center. The Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce will host an Open House from 3 to 7 p.m., and we will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m.

We're opening all the doors so you can enter all the rooms (except the storage rooms) and see how truly marvelous this building has become. We will even post signs at each of the rooms telling you how much that room can be rented for. We believe you will be pleasantly surprised.

Since the building is named to honor the veterans of our area, the American Legion Honor Guard will be on hand to present the Colors at the beginning of the ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:30 p.m. We hope you will attend.

We have a second ribbon cutting this week. One of our newest members, Southern Sky Landscaping, will have their Grand Opening this weekend on Friday and Saturday. The Chamber of Commerce will help with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Friday - June 9. Southern Sky Landscaping is located on the Truck Bypass Road that runs between Highway 90 and 180, on the outskirts of Silver City. Owner Jeramie Carrillo has been getting his landscaping yard in order so that you can see many of the items that are available to be used in landscaping your home or business. As a bonus, they have lots of great items in their shop that are perfect for outdoors or indoors. And be sure to check out the glass-top outdoor Elk tables. Southern Sky Landscaping is only ½ mile from Highway 180 and 1.4 miles from Highway 90. It's their Grand Opening weekend, so now is a great time to visit their business.

So I hope you will visit Southern Sky Landscaping this weekend, and I hope you will come to the Open House at the Grant County Veteran's Memorial Business & Conference Center. We would really like to see you.

By the way, if you attend the Conference Center Open House and have a hankering to get on the stage and yodel... please go right ahead. We promise that we won't slip in, film you and then immediately post it to Facebook... but we can't promise that other people in the building are as nice as us. Call us for more information about the Chamber of Commerce and the Conference Center. Our phone number is (575) 538-3785.
