We welcome another new member to the Chamber of Commerce, Denny's. Like many other people, we patiently watch the progress on the construction of Silver City's newest restaurant. General Manager Kelly Ward and her staff are chomping at the bit to begin serving the folks of Grant County. Keep watching, the restaurant opening is just around the corner.

Congratulations to La Esperanza Vineyard and Winery. This local boutique winery is celebrating its 8th Anniversary this Saturday. Owners David and Esperanza Gurule know how to put on a celebration, so if you are looking for something to do Saturday… we recommend a short trip to 100 DeLaO Road south of San Lorenzo, New Mexico. There will be delicious food, fine wine, New Mexico brewed beers and terrific music throughout the day. If you're not certain where to find La Esperanza Vineyard and Winery, give them a call at 505-259-9523. The celebration begins at 11:00 a.m. and shuts down at 6:00 p.m.

We have two speakers for the Thursday – August 3 Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting. Dan Otero, CEO at Hidalgo Medical Services will discuss healthcare in Grant County, and Jim Kimmons, of www.enjoysilvercity.com, will discuss how he can help Grant County businesses get on the internet for free.

With all the talk going on about healthcare in Grant County, Mr. Otero can shed some light on our needs and future vision for healthcare. As Chief Executive Officer at Hidalgo Medical Services, Dan can tell us about lots of the issues that HMS is currently working to resolve. This should be very enlightening.

Mr. Kimmons is a recent transplant to Silver City. Like many of us, he quickly learned that there are lots of businesses who cannot be found in the telephone directory and those same businesses are not listed anywhere on the internet. So Jim has started a website, www.enjoysilvercity.com to give local businesses a place to be found on this "map directory" on the internet. What is really sweet is… Jim doesn't charge anything to be included on his site. Any business in Grant County ca be added simply by going to the site and filling out a few pieces of information about your business. Hey folks… it's free! Try it!

We're getting geared up, or maybe I should say teed up, for the First Annual Murray Ryan Memorial Golf Classic on Saturday – August 26 at The University Golf Course at Scott Park in Silver City. This four-man scramble will give out awards for the first thru third place teams as well as individual awards for longest drive, closest to the pin, a putting contest, and even the Lawley Automotive Hole-In-One Contest to win a car. Tournament players will get a free breakfast and lunch as well as have a great time playing on one of the greenest courses in New Mexico. Call the Chamber of Commerce office at (575) 538-3785 for a team registration form.

Later this month, we will announce a date and time for a couple of workshops to show local businesses how to use "Wordpress" to develop your own website without any cost other than paying about $15.00 for a domain name. The class will be free and it will be hosted by the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce in the Grant County Business and Conference Center. If you want to learn an inexpensive way to build your own website, watch for future announcements regarding these classes.

The Grant County Business and Conference Center is a great place to hold meetings, fundraising events, conferences, training sessions and more. Come out to the conference center for a tour and to check out the prices. We have lots of parking, plenty of restrooms, we are centrally located, and we set-up the chairs and tables for your event, as well as taking them down afterwards. The Grant County Business and Conference Center is a great place for our community. We invite you to stop by at 3031 Highway 180 East in Silver City to check it out.
