My wife and I are enjoying a visit from our three sons and a serious girlfriend this weekend. It has been a couple of years since we have had all the boys together at one time, so this will be a special time for us. So, as I called each son to see what they would like to do, it seems they thought I was referring to some sort of restaurant menu. One son is good with baked ham, mashed potatoes, and whole kernel corn. My youngest son Ethan, from Louisiana, has requested that I barbeque a couple of slabs of ribs, grilled corn on the cob and broccoli spears, along with some macaroni and cheese. I guess I’ll be visiting one of our local grocery stores asap.

Honestly, I had in mind taking the kids to Tombstone. They have never been there, and I think it is close enough for a day trip. Plus, it’s time for us to get another Old Timey Picture made. Kathy and I had one made on our honeymoon. Since then, every so often we have another made showing the aging of the family. It’s been about a decade since the last one was made… and now we need one with the new female that is being added to the group. So… we’ll stop at Texas Canyon on the way. We’ll see a gunfight or two. We’ll ride around Tombstone on the trolley. We eat at one of the restaurants in Tombstone. We’ll get our Old Timey Picture taken. Then we will come home to Silver City. Just in time for me to get the grill ready to cook on.

So, if you see me walking in one of our stores with three young, tall guys with me. They aren’t my bodyguards… they’re just my boys.

All of us at the Chamber of Commerce are working hard to have a great Grant County Awards Banquet on Friday – November 17. PNM will give out their Energy Efficiency Awards, and the Chamber of Commerce will present the Grant County Citizen of the Year, the Linda K. Jones Humanitarian of the Year, The Grant County Volunteer of the Year, as well as the Grant County Small Business and Large Business of the Year awards. If you would like to nominate an individual or a business, call the Chamber of Commerce office at (575) 538-3785 to receive a nomination form. Tickets for the banquet are now on sale online or at the Chamber of Commerce office located in the Grant County Conference Center.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed for SkyWest Media, the parent company of Silver City Radio. They were chosen as finalists in the New Mexico Hospitality Associations Top Hat Award program. On November 14, the winner will be announced at a banquet in Albuquerque. The nomination was for marketing The Tour of the Gila. We hope Sabrina Pack and her staff receive the award for their category. Whatever happens, SkyWest Media did a great job of marketing our local racing event. Thank you.

Then on Thursday – November 9 at 11:00 a.m., we will assist with a grand opening ribbon cutting for Cornali Dog Park on North Virginia Street in Silver City. I’m trying to come up with a unique way to let the dogs break the ribbon instead of a human cutting it with scissors. You should come check it out.

On Friday – November 10 at 10:00 a.m., we will assist with the grand opening celebration of Cactus Jacks, a gluten-free grocery store in Silver City at 1307 North Pope Street. The ribbon cutting will be on Friday. However grand opening prices and fun events will take place during the entire weekend.

If you have questions, if you need information, or you just need a phone number… call the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce at (575) 538-3785. If you have time, stop by our office in the Grant County Conference Center at 30312 Highway 180 East in Silver City. But don’t stop by thinking we’ll have barbeque at the office. I’m certain my kids will eat everything I cook this weekend.
