Archeological discoveries have confirmed Old Testament references to the practice of sacrificing children to pagan gods, whether to Baal, Molech, Chemosh, or some other foul deity.

The Bible records that God expressly forbade the Israelites to cause “their sons and daughters to pass through the fire.” God promised death, not only to those who did so, but also to those who sanctioned the practice.

Today, almost anyone met on the street would say the thought of sacrificing a child to any god was appalling and horrific, yet for the years 1973-2017, an estimated 60 million unborn children have been sacrificed to the god of self.

The Bible not only refers to unborn children as ‘babes,’ but records that God names them while they are but a gleam in their parents’ eyes.

God has a purpose for each child conceived. The apostle Paul states he was chosen to serve God while in his mother’s womb. The patriarch Jacob; prophets Isaiah and Jeremiah; and the Messiah’s forerunner, John the Baptist, all attest to a pre-birth calling.

All babies, born and unborn, are God’s creation. Job imagines if he had sinned against others how would he answer God, and asks, “Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?”

The prophet Isaiah, in conferring God’s blessing, tells the Israelites, “Thus says the Lord who made you and formed you from the womb,” and tells the tribe of Judah, “Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, and He who formed you from the womb: I am the Lord, who makes all things,” King David wrote, recognizing God’s knowledge of him, “For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb.”

The Bible promises those who demonstrate faith in Jesus, by believing in Him as their Savior in sincerity and truth, will have their sins forgiven and remembered no more by God. It will be as if those sins were cast into the deepest depths of the ocean.

There is no sin so great that will not be forgiven if one calls upon the name of the Lord.
