On Thursday evening I was loon watching at Johnson Pond. The chicks were almost 2 weeks old at this point, and I watched one chick laboriously clamor onto Wrinkly €™s back. Both chicks were stuffed with fish, and were refusing to eat more when Freaky brought fish in. The photo shows Wrinkly, stretching his neck up to look over my canoe, because unbeknownst to me, Freaky was returning with another fish from behind me. The back-riding chick and the one floating low in the water demonstrate that loon chicks are like icebergs. The majority of the chick is underwater!
