The Mining District has several interesting events taking place in the next couple of weeks;
First on Friday, October 26, there is the Fierro Canyon Art Studio Grand Opening & Exhibit. The Studio is located on Hermosa Street in Fierro and the event starts at 3:00 pm, ending at 9:00 pm. Refreshments will be served. Directions are: At the intersection of Hwy 152 & 356, follow signs to Fierro and the Hanover Post Office. In .7 miles you will reach the post office; the gallery is at the next right about 150 feet past the Post Office and is located past the Empire Zinc Mine. The next morning, Saturday, October 27, the Bayard Public Library is presenting
A Day with the Raptors starting at 10:30 am. This is a great event for both young and old. A Day With the Raptors: A Live Raptor Demonstration and Discussion with Falconer James Rodgers. Come out to the library and catch a Harris Hawk and Golden Eagle in action! For more information call 575-537-6244.
The following weekend, Saturday, November 3, in Mimbres, we have the Mimbres Valley Artisans Festival where you will find arts, crafts, demos, and music at 3 different venues:
(1) the Roundup Lodge 9 a.m.-3 p.m., edible art (good quality food served with an artistic presentation)
(2) the Living Art Studio 9 a.m.-4 p.m., demonstrations by Pueblo weaver Louie Garcia from northern New Mexico. Call Theresa Meehan at 536-2211 for info.
and from 2:30-4 p.m. Mountain Horse Singers perform intertribal powwow songs.
(3) La Esperanza Winery 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wine tastings at La Esperanza Winery.

There will be roadside signs up in the valley on the day of the event.
