Just my 2 cents worth

By Mary Walker
Just my 2 cents worth:
What always amazes me is that people from Silver City will say that the drive to the Mining District is too far.  Now, these are the same people that used to live in big cities and used to drive at least an hour to get where they wanted to go. I drive from Bayard to downtown Silver City in about 20 minutes, staying within the speed limit. Now, that's not too far. (smile)  I would like to encourage people from the "big city" to drive out for some of our events.  I hear that the Hurley Gateway Plaza Copper Grill has a delicious steak dinner on Friday nights and also has music. It's time for me to go try it out. Will do this Friday.

Rodgers and raptor
Raptor Demonstration photos:
The Bayard Public Library had a raptor demonstration with Falconer James Rodgers with his Golden Eagle and Harris Hawk.  About 50 people turn out for the event.  One thing is for certain, these are awesome birds.

Veterans Day at Fort Bayard Cemetery
Sunday, November 11, we will celebrate Veterans’ Day at the Fort Bayard National Cemetery, starting at 10:00 a.m. All local veterans groups will be participating and invite the public to come out and honor all who have served our country.
New Website:
The Bayard Public Library has a new website. Check them out at

Fierro Canyon Art Studio
Fierro has an art gallery, and they had a grand opening recently. I was surprised at what a lovely gallery it is.  Yes, as some would say, it is in the middle of "nowhere," but well worth a drive out to view the interesting and thought provoking photography that is on exhibit there.
It is located on Hermosa Street about 150 feet away from the Hanover Post Office. From Highway 180 take 152 and turn off at Hwy 356. The studio is about 1/2 mile down the road. For more info you can go to their website:   www.fierrocanyongallery.com
