Albuquerque – New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is failing to disclose a public document about her proposal to raise fuel prices in the state. On February 7, Power The Future sent an official request to the New Mexico Environment Department for communications, over just a two-day period, that discuss the so called “Clean Fuel Standard.” Exactly one week after submitting the request, House Bill 426, the “Clean Fuel Standards” bill was introduced in the Legislature.

Over two weeks after the records request, the Environment Department responded with a letter from the Governor’s office stating there is a single record that meets the request. However, the letter explained Governor Lujan Grisham is using Executive Privilege to keep it secret.

“This bill will dramatically raise the price at the pump on New Mexico’s families, so it’s no surprise why Governor Lujan Grisham wants to hide the truth,” said Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future. “Last year, the Governor tried to sneak this bill through in the middle of the night and now she’s hiding discussions about it within her administration. If the Governor is proud of what she’s doing, she wouldn’t have to hide.”

The letter from the Governor’s office can be seen here.

The so-called “Clean Fuel Standard” is another proposal pushed by the eco-left and has failed in every other previous session. Only three states have passed a similar bill, including California where the average price of gas is currently $4.79 a gallon.
