So now the liberals are ecstatic that a special counsel has been appointed to investigate the alleged ties between President Trump's campaign staff and the Russians. Of course the whole intent among the anti-Trump crowd is that they will find evidence that Trump and the Russians colluded to steal the election from Hillary Clinton. It appears the tipping point that pushed the Department of Justice off the fence and to the decision to appoint a special counsel was this alleged memo written by former FBI Director Comey that has been interpreted by some to prove that Donald Trump tried to influence the investigation into Michael Flynn. It disappoints me that the media and their friends in the political elite have been able to lie their way to where we are now.

Let's start the factual review with this memo allegedly written by Director Comey that was revealed to the Washington media by an anonymous source. If we are going to use the standard that the media wants to use with Trump, we would like to see the memo and documentable, incontrovertible proof that this memo is real and was written by Director Comey. Don't we have the right to judge the motivation and truthfulness of not only the document but also the person releasing it?

Let's also not forget the timeline related to all of this alleged interference in an FBI investigation. Mr. Comey testified in front of Congress and under oath on May 5, 2017 that no one including the president had tried to interfere into any ongoing investigation being conducted by the FBI. He said that multiple times and so to believe that this memo is true and accurately reflects the conversation he had with Trump means that Mr. Comey committed perjury. The meeting that is referenced in the leaked memo took place on February 14. So either you have to believe Mr. Comey lied under oath to Congress or the left wing is twisting some facts.

According to the news reports, what the president said to Director Comey during their dinner meeting on 14 February was that he hoped the investigation into Michael Flynn was over with. That's because three weeks prior to this dinner meeting the FBI had cleared Mr. Flynn of any wrongdoing related to their investigation into the phone calls between Mr. Flynn and representatives of the Russian government. While FBI director Comey was testifying to the Senate committee, he had stated Mr. Flynn did not appear to do anything wrong based upon the conversations that were monitored by the FBI. So it would seem normal for Trump to assume that this investigation had come to an end and could be put behind everyone involved.

The many on the left will look at the facts and come to the same conclusion that they had before, because they want Trump out so badly that they will not apply common sense or the same standards that they applied to President Obama when he was caught lying and they forgave him or justified it in some manner. We have long known that politicians and the media will twist facts or how they report a story in order to achieve certain ends. But since Trump has been elected we have seen them go completely overboard in falsifying information to influence public opinion. It is a sad commentary on the state of our nation today. Finally, I will tell those of you that supported Trump not to be discouraged. When you actually do a little research, you find that he is accomplishing much of what he promised to do. It is just not being reported by the media. Do a little research into situations like this and you'll find that there is not any fire; in fact the smoke being blown by the media is fake, also.
