With the Thanksgiving weekend up on us, most of us pause to reflect upon the blessings that have been bestowed upon us. We think about family, friends, having a place to live, having a job, having food on the table, and maybe a little bit of extra money at the end of the month. I am no different from the rest of you in that regard. Here are some other things for which I am thankful.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where the people who preach tolerance and diversity are so accepting of Christians, conservatives, and others with whom they might disagree on certain issues.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where those very same people will not force their belief system upon the owners of a small business and try to ruin their lives.

I’m thankful that we are led by politicians who tell the truth.

I’m thankful that we are led by politicians who keep their promises made during their campaigns for office.

I’m thankful that our political leaders can pass a repeal of Obamacare seven times in eight years knowing it will not be signed by the president. But the first opportunity they have to pass the very same legislation that would be signed by a new president, I’m thankful that they did not struggle with that process.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where people who condemn a US representative for tapping his toe in a bathroom stall also called out their friends and associates for doing much worse.

I’m thankful that we have political leadership in the Republican Party that adheres to conservative principles rather than voting to keep themselves in power.

I’m thankful that our representatives in Congress would not use taxpayer money to pay off victims of sexual harassment committed by our elected officials.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where one day after we give thanks for all of our blessings, we can beat the crap out of each other in order to buy a cheap television.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where information is available at our fingertips so that no one is ignorant.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where individuals are judged upon the content of their character rather than some random demographic characteristic over which they have no control.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where morality governs the decision-making process of our citizens and that the most commonly visited websites on the Internet are not pornographic in nature.

I’m thankful that the Dallas Cowboys have a losing record.

I’m thankful that we live in a country where a demographic group is not condemned based upon the actions of a few members of that group.

I’m thankful that we have vegetarians trying to save all the animals by eating their food.

I’m thankful that an immigrant took Michelle Obama’s job.

I’m thankful that Hillary Clinton is not our president.

I’m thankful for all the liberals in my life. They’ve shown me what I do not want to become.

Last but not least, I’m thankful for the opportunity that I have to entertain you and inform you each week.
