So, I did not listen to the Oprah’s acceptance speech at the Golden globes. But I did see the next morning all of the gushing reviews and how presidential she sounded and how without actually saying it, she was basically announcing that she would be a candidate for president. Over the last few days I have heard most of the speech through snippets and things like that. Isn’t it interesting that when she talks about racial issues she has to go back to the days of Jim Crow and real discrimination that was legal in many states because of laws enacted by Democrats? And then she tries to say that things essentially have not changed even though she is one of the most successful and powerful women on the face of the earth. So, I have to ask this question very quickly, which white person allowed you to become so rich and successful? Because in your view of the racism that occurs today, you have no chance to become this successful if you are a black woman.

Now don’t get me wrong, as I have said repeatedly there is racism in our society against all ethnicities and from all ethnicities. But we do not have systemic racism engendered in our laws and our government in the way that we used to. With the exception of laws designed to give preferential treatment to minorities in order to rectify past wrongs. To claim that our police forces are consciously and systemically bigoted is wrong. To claim that our government promotes racism and slavery is wrong. We have done more as a country in our short history to try and get rid of bigotry and racism than any other country that has come before us. In fact, several studies through the U.N. and independent groups say there are more people living in slavery today than at any other time in history. Yes, racism and bigotry exist but it is on an individual basis and sometimes those individuals do sit in positions of power.

But on to the bigger point, Oprah is being touted by many as the next president and they are pushing for her to run as the Democrat party nominee in 2020. So now I’m waiting for all of you, whether you are liberals or conservatives, or whatever, who said Donald Trump is not qualified to be president because he has never held political office to say the same thing about Oprah. Many of you said that because he did not have any foreign-policy experience, any military experience, or any political experience that he was not qualified to lead the most powerful nation on the face of the Earth. If those things are your criteria than neither is Oprah.

Now I happen to disagree with that basic premise and I have pointed out, as have many others in the past, that Donald Trump has foreign policy experience because he has businesses all across the globe. You have to navigate not only the laws of other countries as well as international laws but you also have to be able to negotiate a deal with governments in every country where you do or want to conduct business. Those are similar skills to conducting foreign policy it’s just that the topic changes but the principles are the same. Oprah doesn’t have that kind of experience. But, just like Donald Trump, she is capable of finding people that have that experience and putting them in positions where they can be trusted and valued advisers to her.

Think of it this way, do you think the CEO of General Motors is capable of doing any kind of Mig or Tig welding? Probably not but by your standards then he shouldn’t be president of the company. You might think it’s kind of a silly comparison but that’s because you don’t have a logical rebuttal. There has not been a president in the history of this country who has been an expert or even supremely knowledgeable in every area with which he has had to deal. They have to have the ability to listen, learn, and trust those who are experts. In other words, it’s more important to me that they’ve had managerial experience as opposed to political experience.
