You know what makes a liberal madder than anything? When someone else, a conservative to be exact, does the same exact thing the liberals condemn but are doing themselves. Look at the sexual harassment scandal for example; they would accuse any conservative of sexual harassment or assault at the drop of a hat, usually without any hard evidence. Liberal activists would call for that person’s head on a platter. As it turned out, it was their elite actually engaging in the most egregious behavior. You get the idea.

Now we have the ‘scandal’ involving Facebook allowing Cambridge Analytical to mine user’s data and provide services to the Trump campaign. The libs have gone after Mark Zuckerberg half heartedly and feigned anger at having their privacy invaded. Curiously they are very quiet about Google, Amazon, and some of the other tech companies that know more about us than our spouses do. But then they haven’t been caught yet.

Cambridge Analytical apparently had access to about 50 million Facebook users. Zuckerberg has apologized for the ‘breach’ of security and privacy but his apologies and reasoning for it happening are weak at best. What’s made the liberals ecstatic is Zuckerberg’s request that the government enact regulations to prevent this from happening again. More government oversight makes liberals happier than a pimple-faced boy when the new edition of Mad Magazine used to come in the mail. Thank Zuckerberg, just what we need, more government intrusion because they’re so good at protecting our individual rights.

But to the liberals it proves a key point that they make so often; individuals cannot be trusted to do the right thing themselves. Government must enact laws, rules, and regulations telling us how to act; what to do and not to do. Neither can individuals take care of themselves if they are in a minority group, but that’s another column entirely. To a liberal, if one of their icons, Zuckerberg, can be corrupted and act inappropriately, then all of us are evil. Kind of like maniacs using guns to commit heinous crimes.

But back to my original premise about liberals getting really mad at conservatives for doing exactly what the liberals were doing. It wasn’t too long ago that Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg was giving a speech to a group of Democrat lobbyists, donors, and politicos. During that speech she bragged openly about helping the Obama campaign during the re-election bid. She talked about how FB staff were able to mine the data of a hundred million users and then provide that information to members of the Obama campaign, which allowed them to target voters very specifically and encourage them to vote for Obama and “trash the other guy.” She also inferred that they had done something similar for the midterm elections in 2010 and the Democrat party.

I know most of you aren’t surprised at the hypocrisy of the liberals but not enough of us are outraged and doing something about it. Clearly we’ve seen a swing back to the conservative side of the aisle politically, although I’d argue the majority of our population holds conservative economic and small government principles; we don’t vote that way often enough. I know I sound like a broken record; we have to get and stay involved. We need to voice our opinions to our elected officials clearly and frequently.

We won’t need more government regulation. Let the law enforcement arm of the federal government enforce the current laws. They are already conducting an investigation into Facebook’s antics. If what FB staff did isn’t already illegal, then we can consider enacting laws that make it so. Until then, let justice take its course. And let us tell our elected officials what they really need to be doing for us; not to us.
