Somewhere there are psychiatrists, psychologists, behavioral scientists loving this time in our country. They are having a field day analyzing the behavior of those on the left side of the aisle and their response to the Trump presidency. Trump Derangement Syndrome has actually gained a foothold among some mental health professionals as an actual diagnosis that must be treated. Too bad it treated by telling the poor little snowflakes to “grow up” and act like an adult.

It is fascinating to watch the reactions to all the successes President Trump is having, even though most of his opponents won’t acknowledge his achievements, such as low unemployment, fewer people on food stamps, tax cut prosperity, fewer regulations, North Korea, trade with the EU… you know.

Since Trump became President it has become not only acceptable to call for his death or the death of his supporters, it has almost become expected. It’s not just from the more radical wing of the liberal movement, like Kathy Griffin or other comedians, but even Maxine Waters and several elected officials have called for violence against Trump and his supporters.

We’ve seen that call to arms manifested over and over. Members of the administration have been verbally accosted while out in public, outside of work hours. Many of you are familiar with the video of the man physically and verbally assaulting a 16 year old just for wearing a MAGA hat. There are too many of these types of assaults taking place across our great land, by those who preach tolerance and acceptance.

The most fascinating phenomena to me is the outright lying that has become acceptable from those on the left side of the aisle. Even more amazing is the acceptance by many of those lies. I’m not necessarily talking about the slack-jawed mouth breathing lemmings who eat up the lies like they haven’t eaten in weeks.

I have listened to a number of news programs, including on Fox News, where Trump opponents have outright lied about him or other facts and they are not called on the carpet by the host. One example stands out clearly in my mind. I believe is was on the Trish Reagan show on Fox Business Channel. The guest, a Democrat strategist who’s name I have forgotten, responded to the announcement of 4.1% growth in GDP.

The guest said it was not a big deal since Obama had achieved 4.1% growth in 3 quarters during his tenure. My first thought was “LIAR!!”. My second was, “come on Trish, call him out.” She did not. She’s not alone either. I’ve listened to hosts across the spectrum fail to call guests out for lying. Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, and Charles Payne notwithstanding.

I understand that you can’t always be prepared for statements made by guests, but you can later come back and tell the audience that the claim was false. More disappointing than the failure to correct these lies, is that the very same guests are asked back repeatedly. Why? The only reason I’d bring a guest like that back is to challenge his/her claims.

We need factual reporting from our media, especially those that we believe are more fair and balanced. A recent poll found that 65% of Democrat voters believe votes were changed by the Russians in the last election. This poll was taken after Rod Rosenstein said there was no evidence that any vote, “Not one vote”, had been changed by Russian hackers. It’s because of the language used by Trump’s opponents, “our election was hacked”. Language that should have been challenged every time it’s been used.

I would love to have the time to study the reasoning behind all of the behavior we are seeing. This will be a time in history when mental health and behavioral professionals point to as a great time in their field. Let’s hope the rest of us survive it.
