The State of New Mexico has joined with 7 other states and a couple of 'advocacy groups' to sue the federal government after President Trump removed Obama administration regulations regarding serving healthy food in school cafeterias. These regulations limited the amount of sodium, fat, sugar, etc. that could be served to the little snowflakes and were part of Michelle Obama's oh so successful overhaul of the school meals programs. You know the one that saw kids throwing trays full of food in the trash because the food was horrible?

The state Attorneys General said the kids will now have their health threatened because food service companies will immediately begin loading up their processed foods with sodium, sugar, chemicals, fat, and all those things will be consumed by unknowing little snowflakes, who will become obese and suffer from clogged arteries. Never mind that PE has essentially been removed from schools; that doesn't contribute to the ill health of several generations of kids.

But the fact that NM and other states are suing the federal government believing that is the solution demonstrates just how far the reliance upon the nanny state has seeped into our society. The belief is that unless the federal government regulates behavior, bad things will surely happen.

Why are they assuming that companies providing food to schools will automatically go back to providing less than healthy fare? Because the liberals believe that every human will take the low road in every situation and do what they can to make money or take advantage of others. They assume that gun owners will eventually decide to shoot up a school or mall or movie theater, simply because anyone that owns a gun must be a ticking time bomb.

But more importantly, in addition to the fact that I don't believe this falls under the umbrella of enumerated powers given to the federal government, what is keeping the several states from enacting their own nutritional requirements? What is keeping each school district from seeking out providers that offer healthier meals or alternatives? Absolutely nothing. At least to you and me, nothing is stopping them.

In reality it is their belief that we must have one overruling entity to ensure equality in all aspects of our lives. They cannot admit that not only are we individuals with our own ideas, thoughts, desires, or opinions, but that generally 99% of us try to do the right thing by each other; even in our business ventures. And they certainly can't stand it if one group decides to do take a different approach to solving a problem than they believe to be correct.

So NM is spending our hard earned tax dollars to force the federal government to enact more regulations to control our behavior, because clearly we can't do it ourselves. Which begs the question: if Lujan-Grisham believes she and her administration are incapable of enacting good laws and enforcing them, then what is she doing in office? I know...
