Silver City, NM – June 2 – This week, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded Literacy Link - Leamos a $5,000 grant to support adult literacy services.

For the the past nine years, Dollar General Literacy Foundation supported Literacy Link - Leamos (LLL) with grants for its adult literacy services in Grant County. LLL is grateful for this continuing support from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

"At Dollar General, we are passionate about our mission of Serving Others throughout the communities we serve," said Rick Dreiling, Dollar General's chairman and CEO. "It's exciting to see the Dollar General Literacy Foundation's outreach in action as we partner with organizations to further education and literacy and make a real difference in people's lives."

Literacy Link - Leamos, a 501 C(3) nonprofit organization based at the Public Library of Silver City, offers individualized tutoring to adults who need help with basic English literacy skills, GED preparation, computer instruction, English as a Second Language, literacy for citizenship, and other language life skills. LLL also tutors small classes at the Grant County Detention Center. The Let's Read book giveaway program of LLL gave 25,000 new books to Head Start and elementary school children during the 2013-14 school year.

Since its inception in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $92 million in grants to nonprofit organizations, helping more than five million individuals take their first steps toward literacy or continued education.

Literacy Link - Leamos is grateful to have been recognized and funded by The Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Volunteers are needed as tutors, readers in Head Start classrooms, and helpers with book giveaways and community events.
