Carolyn Laverne Torres was born in Paul's Valley, Oklahoma November 19th, 1933 to Carl Shores and Pauline Taber Shores. She passed peacefully on September 14th, 2014 in Las Vegas, NV. She was a long time, well-respected member of the Silver City and Grant County community.

For health reasons, she and Henry relocated to Boulder City, NV four years ago. She was a bookkeeper by trade. The majority of her bookkeeping career was in the livestock marketing business. In 1979, she and her husband Henry moved to Silver City, at which time she became involved in real estate ranch sales. After her time in real estate, she went to work as Chief Deputy in the Grant County Assessor's Office. Four years later she ran for and was elected Grant County Assessor. She served Grant County in the Assessor's office for 16 years. Carolyn was truly a professional.

She retired in 1998. Carolyn had a tremendous work ethic, a quest for learning; learning something new every day, and she was always willing to share her vast knowledge and resources with those she worked and associated with. She was an avid reader. Carolyn was a loving and devoted mother to her children and, especially, grandchildren, having been a very strong guiding influence to her Silver City granddaughters. She loved her family and home.

She loved informal gatherings with her many friends and family; barbeques and fireworks on July 4th, watermelon busts and New Year's Eve get togethers with games such as Trivial Pursuit and Guesstures. We had a Super Bowl pool every year. I don't think Carolyn had any idea who might win the Super Bowl! It didn't matter! She won money almost every year.

When someone would tickle Carolyn's fancy with a joke, it caused Carolyn's infectious laugh to erupt! Soon everyone was laughing! We will remember and miss her. She was a true friend!
She is survived by her sons Steve Wells and Ally and family, Michael Wells and his family and by her daughter Paula Torres and family of Silver City, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Pauline Shores, one son Richard Wells, and her brother Sonny Shores.

Finally, she is survived by her husband Henry, who she had as a husband and true partner in life.

I want no rites in a gloom filled room. Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little, but not too long, and not with your head bowed low.

Remember the love that we once shared. Miss me, but let me go.

For this journey we all must take and each must go alone.

It's all part of His Master plan, a step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick of heart, go to the friends you know

And bury your sorrows on doing good deeds. Miss me, but let me go."
