It is our pleasure to announce that Baby-Friendly ® USA Inc. has recognized Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) as a Baby-Friendly ® Designated birth facility! The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative ("BFHI") is a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Based on the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, this prestigious international award recognizes birth facilities that offer breastfeeding mothers the information, confidence, and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies. After a tremendous effort by our Maternal Child department, GRMC is now one of 281 active Baby-Friendly ® hospitals in the United States. "It was a lot of work by many people" said Peggy White, Chief Nursing Officer at GRMC, "Departments hospital wide supported us in earning this award. The designation will only serve to improve the care our mothers and babies receive." This is just one more way that GRMC is Transforming the Healthcare Experience for Those We Serve.
