ALCS English teacher Catalina Claussen (pictured below) is proud of her daughter and other students. She has also recently had work published.

During December 2015 and January 2106, Aldo Leopold Charter School has a number of school community members who have been published or are looking forward to publication. Seniors Skyler Blood-Raiter and Karuna Markham were featured along with their teacher in the Winter 2016 issue of the Silver City Quarterly Review. Blood-Raiter's essay GǣWooden EggsGǥ explores Skyler's self-described stubborn streak. Markham's essay GǣUntitledGǥ chronicles her grief journey in the aftermath of the plane crash that took three students' lives. Their essays may be found at https://scquarterlyreview.wordpress.com/.

GǣWriting is meant to be seen, to be published,Gǥ says English teacher, Catalina Claussen. And with this in mind she is looking forward to the publication of her first Young Adult novel Diamonds at Dusk with Progressive Rising Phoenix Press. She and her daughter, an eighth grader at ALCS, look forward to their collaborative photography exhibit (May 18-25) and reading on May 21 at 5 p.m. at Javalina's Coffeehouse. Finally, Claussen will be reading a small collection of poems dedicated to the three forks of the Gila River at the 6th Annual Gila River Symposium on February 25 at 6-7:30 at the Western New Mexico University Besse-Forward Global Resource Center.

In the forthcoming issues of the Silver City Quarterly Review, Claussen is excited to report that three more ALCS students, Sammantha Larisch, Olivia Moritz, and Soloman Lazzell, will be featured for their essays.
