It had been 15 years since their last training, so Director of EMS, Eloy Medina contacted the New Mexico Fire Academy in conjunction with the Silver City Fire Chief, Tim Heidrick and brought a course to the caregivers of GRMC. The extrication course taught the EMS personnel to be able to take injured patients from heavily damaged vehicles utilizing hand tools and hydraulic tools like the Jaws of Life. Both are carried by the GRMC EMS and the Silver City Fire Department. "I am really proud of the EMS Staff for committing to this four day training and completing it successfully," said EMS Director Eloy Medina. "It will better prepare them to serve the community when called upon."

With a station as busy as the GRMC EMS, with 22 calls per day and over 400 every month, recruiting efforts are always a priority. Currently they are seeking two full time paramedics and two full time intermediates. "Our wages are the second highest in the state, with sign on bonuses to encourage recruitment" said Director Medina. "With the state-of-art rescue equipment, very competitive wages and sign on bonuses, the Gila Regional EMS is a great career opportunity."
