First Presbyterian Church of Silver City is happy to announce that the Rev. John Charles Cheek has been called to serve as its pastor. John will be in Silver City two Sundays per month, as well as the week in-between, as he continues to also serve Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson.

John is a second-career pastor, having worked as a police officer in southern Arizona for 24 years. In his current call in Tucson, where he has served for almost 11 years, John is responsible for pastoral counseling, bereavement work, and hospital and hospice visitation. He is also a member of a team which responds to disasters of various kinds across the US, providing emotional and spiritual care at the time of the disaster and in the months and years following.

He is both joyful and excited to be serving First Presbyterian in Silver City, and he's looking forward to learning more about this area, and to meeting new friends here. His sense of First Presbyterian's future is that the church will seek to find more and more ways to serve Silver City and Grant County, with the goal of helping our community to be both healthier and more hopeful.
