The Silver City Public Library is pleased to announce that Chris Baumgarn has joined the library's team as the new Children's/Youth Services Librarian. "I was originally born here in Silver City," said Baumgarn. "My parents moved the family away when I was six months old and I grew up in rural Iowa. My first visit to Silver City was actually for my interview." Baumgarn has spent the past five years working at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library in Las Cruces. The first two years there he worked primarily in the circulation department, but also helped out in the computer lab, the Children's department, the Young Adult department, and the media department. The last few years he has been the Senior Library Assistant in Branigan Library's Young Adult department. He also helped out a few hours a week in the Children's department and occasionally manned the main reference desk. Baumgarn's primary responsibility was programming for teens. While he was there, the library was able to greatly increase the amount and variety of programs for teens in Las Cruces.

Baumgarn has an Associate's Degree in Library Science from Do+
