MAP Volunteers RSPhoto (left to right): Gloria Lopez and Connie Hostetler6/29/16 - The Medication Assistance Program, better known as MAP, has been a part of our community for over 15 years. This program is a service provided by Gila Regional Medical Center's Auxiliary. Sponsored by and located at Silver Health Care, the volunteers are able to help locate free and/or discounted medications for eligible applicants. The volunteers have not been busy and are wondering why no one seems to be having difficulty paying for their medications. One of their few regular clients says "My wife and I appreciate the savings of close to $2000 a year especially since we depend on social security. You (MAP) have been thoughtful, kind, and efficient in accessing the assistance through the companies and doctors." Another client gives MAP credit for saving her $3,000 a month. She says, "MAP is a blessing". Still another client says "Este programa es tener vida porque las medicinas nos ayudan a seguir viviendo." He always leaves the office in smiles and appreciation of the volunteers' ability to speak Spanish. His comment well explains the reason that MAP volunteers continue their service. Translation: This program is life giving. It helps us continue living.

Of course, how much MAP can help depends on several things. Does the applicant have prescription drug insurance; a limited income; or Medicare D? However, sometimes the insurance doesn't help much, sometimes the income maximum is higher than imagined and sometimes a Medicare D patient is in the doughnut hole. A MAP volunteer can do the research and figure out positive solutions that best fit your individual situation.

To speak to a MAP volunteer you can visit their office located at Silver Health Care, 1600 32nd St. on Wednesdays, 9:00 am - 11:00am, or call 956-1330. Phone messages will be answered once a week.
