Pictured are Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest visiting the Silva Creek Botanical Garden. They walked the half-mile there from the Girl Scout Little House and were treated to a talk by Tricia Hurley about plants. The girls learned about plants that are invasive, and which are native to this area. They were able to smell some of the plants such as the chocolate flower, the mint plant, and oregano. The girls also learned about the creosote bush and how it has been used to treat cancer.

Girls were given a pedometer to see how many steps they could get walking to and from the botanical garden, eating lunch at Virginia Street Park and back to the Girl Scout Little House, one girl managed to get over 7500 steps.

The SCBG is voluntarily managed by the Gila Native Plant Society and if folks are interested in learning more their website is www.gilanps.org . If youth groups are interested in plant presentations they can get in touch with Lone Mountain Natives at www.lonemountainnatives.com
