Paul Donet, Medical Technologist, standing next to the BioFire Film Array system.The Lab at Gila Regional Medical Center (GRMC) will be using the BioFire Film Array system to detect life threatening pathogens on the DNA level, such as Meningitis or Septicemia (Sepsis), one of the leading causes of death in both infants and adults in the United States.

"The BioFire allows our Lab professionals to manage all aspects of the testing process onsite, from sample preparation to DNA amplification and detection" said Darla Allen, Director of GRMC's Laboratory Services. "This technology will allow our caregivers to treat disease states earlier than ever before. We can get results within an hour as compared to waiting 2 to 3 days for the organisms to grow."

Many tests that could have taken days to get results can be completed in a matter of hours. The system is specifically designed to purify, concentrate, detect and identify targeted nucleic acid sequences delivering results directly from unprocessed samples.
