Members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City began construction this past Sunday on what will be a labyrinth, located behind the Fellowship Hall.

The project is headed by Lynda Aiman-Smith and Connie Thibeau-Catsis.

UU Member Harriet Rogers placed the first rock near the center of what will become a 30-foot in diameter circular continuous pathway to the center point. Rogers found the rock, which resembles a cantaloupe, near the Connecticut River many years ago.

Later, Fellowship volunteers joined hands and blessed the initial day's work.Labyrinths first appeared in mythology more than a thousand years ago on the island of Crete. Becoming reality, they have spread worldwide, principally used for reflection and spirituality. Several are now found in the Silver City area, the best known of which is in the courtyard of the Gila Regional Medical Center.
