The Lotus Center was one of the non-profit groups that received a bag refund donation this month from the Silver City Food Co-op. The Co-op gives a "chip" worth 5 cents for each bag a customer brings in to use for their groceries. Customers can then donate that chip to one of two non-profit groups selected by the Co-op for that month.

The Lotus Center is a non-profit community center in downtown Silver City offering classes in meditation, yoga, and other types of mindful movement. Operating since January of 2015, Lotus Center welcomes people who seek to improve their health, relieve stress, and find inner-peace in a welcoming and serene place.

Jeff Goin, founder of Lotus Center, has been teaching and leading non-denominational meditation in Silver City, on a volunteer basis, since 2008. His classes provide practical ideas and methods for improving relationships, overcoming anger, dealing with stress and, in general, establishing and maintaining a peaceful state of mind. Goin states, "From the very beginning, Lotus Center has viewed the Co-op as being one of our community partners. To receive this gift from the Co-op membership is both flattering and validating."

The mission of the Silver City Food Co-op is to provide and distribute high quality products and to promote cooperative and nutritional education to our members-owners, our customers, and our community.
