Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest in Grant County was recently awarded a grant from United Way of Southwest New Mexico for a program called "Agent of Change." Girls will have the opportunity to attend workshops to learn about Soft Skills such as communication, enthusiasm/attitude, teamwork and observation. The programs are offered free of charge to any girl in grades 2-5 that lives in Grant County and each will receive a free membership to Girl Scouts. Girls will earn 2 badges and receive a Girl Scout Handbook for attending and, of course, have a lot of fun. For 2nd and 3rd graders, we will provide the My Great Day workshop and the Making Friends workshop. My Great Day involves planning ahead and getting organized. Making Friends helps girls practice friendships, and how to respectfully disagree through role play. For 4th thru 5th grade girls, Scribe and Social Butterfly will provide reading and writing practice through stories and poems and help build soft skills, such as manners and holding a conversation. Outcomes for these programs are Girls will develop a stronger sense of self, positive values, practical life skills, practice healthy relationships and feel connected to their communities.
Programs are being scheduled now through June 30; to register your daughter in one or more please call Annette Toney at 538-2481 or email at atoney@gsdsw.org for more information.
