img 7893Sixth Judicial District Court Judge, Timothy (Othy) Aldrich, has graciously accepted an academic position with the Criminal Justice Department at Western New Mexico University. Judge Aldrich will replace the distinguished Professor Curtis Hayes who retired in 2017.

By acceptance of this position, Judge Aldrich announces that he will not be running in the 2018 election cycle to retain the position of District Court Judge.

Aldrich notes, “It has been a very humbling honor to serve the communities of the Sixth Judicial District as their Judge. A great deal of discernment, prayer and discussion with family went into the decision-making process.”

Aldrich further stated, “It is a rare occurence that an opportunity within the Criminal Justice department opens up, and teaching, first, and foremost is my passion.”

Aldrich points out that as a Judge, he has become even more aware of the desperate need for legal services for individuals within our communities who are trying to navigate the maze that has become our legal system.

Judge Aldrich believes that WNMU will provide a supportive, creative environment which will offer him the ability to return to his Access to Justice roots through implementation of projects that will address those legal needs in our community.
