The First United Methodist Church of Silver City, founded in 1873, obtained land to build its first church in May, 140 years ago!
140 years ago, in May 1878, the National Methodist Church purchased property on the NW corner of Bayard and Broadway, to be the site of the first Methodist Church structure in Silver City. Five years later, 1883, this property was deeded by the national church to the "Asbury Methodist-Episcopal Church of Silver City", and the church was built on the corner, at 203 North Bayard St.
The second church was built on the same location in 1904, but facing south, at 500 West Broadway. It is now a private residence.
The current church, at 300 West College Ave., was built in 1950.
