Since September 2017, the Rotary Club of Silver City has given five books to each of the 298 children in kindergarten in Grant County. The Rotary club has also donated more than 150 additional age-appropriate books to the library of 6th Street School, where 158 kindergarten students and 30 children in pre-school are currently enrolled. The impetus for the project was the realization that not all children in Grant County were recipients of The Imagination Library's donations of books to youngsters aged one month to five years. Moreover, book donations from The Imagination Library end at age five.

Maria Elena Galindo, Librarian at 6th Street School, stated that she delivers the individual book gifts to each child separately when possible, or takes them to the classrooms for distribution. She emphasizes to them that "this book is yours to keep and take home" and she reports that they are excited to have them. For some, she stated, "this is the first book they have ever owned." She also explained that, because the library has a limited book budget, the books donated to the library make a real difference.

Mr. Trujillo, Principal of 6th Street School, agreed that this program has been beneficial for the children and stated that Rotary's support is much appreciated.

Peter Falley, Treasurer of The Silver City Rotary Foundation, through which the project was funded, stated, "One of Rotary's major areas of focus is 'literacy and education,' and this project is seen as a way to instill a love of books and reading in young people at the earliest possible age."
