kiwanis august 2018 rsMembers of the Kiwanis Club of Silver City attended their annual Southwest Convention in El Paso and came away with many honors, awards and new leadership positions. The Kiwanis Southwest District that includes clubs from Arizona, New Mexico, and El Paso, awarded Dotty Pfeifer of Silver City with the Kiwanis Volunteer of the Year Award. Not only is Dotty the Secretary of the Kiwanis Silver City Club, in addition she sponsors 2 Terrific Kid schools and a K-Kids Club at Stout Elementary. Dotty has volunteered for 35 years, mostly as chairperson, of the St. Francis Associates in Silver City, where she coordinates a food pantry with other volunteers, in addition to securing grants for funding of the program as well as helping those in need for utilities, rent, medicine and emergency shelter. Dotty's husband, Craig "Horse" Pfeifer was awarded the Kiwanis Southwest District Foundation highest honor, the Kachina Award for his dedicated service to the district, Kamp Kiwanis and beyond. Completing the honors for the weekend, Silver City Kiwanis President, Alma Carson was installed as Division 7 Lt. Governor charged with representing Silver City, Deming, Las Cruces and Socorro County on the District Board of Directors. The Kiwanis Club of Silver City meets at 12 noon each Tuesday at Wrangler's restaurant in Silver City and the public is always invited to attend.
