Silver City Mayor Ken Ladner and his wife, Becky Smith Ladner, pick up trash along Highway 180 at Market Street, hoping to spark an interest in fellow residents to help beautify Silver City. A new campaign, “Pick it Up and Toss No Mas,” encourages Silver City residents to partner with the town and pick up trash wherever and whenever they can, in addition to not tossing it in the first place. The campaign also includes an educational component reminding landfill users to cover their loads to avoid littering.

“Silver City is a beautiful place, and we want to make it even better by taking a renewed pride in our community and helping keep it clean,” said Mayor Ladner. “We only get one chance to make a great first impression on the visitors who are so important to our local economy. I hope everyone will pitch in and help our community, doing their part to keep businesses and neighborhoods litter free.”

“Pick it Up and Toss No Mas” encourages individuals, businesses, organizations, neighborhoods, friends and families to make ongoing commitments for litter pick-up. The beauty of the program, says Ladner, is that anyone can create their own clean-up project. A website will be used to coordinate the efforts, and the town will provide garbage bags, safety vests and trash pickup.

The public is invited to hear the mayor and town staff present details of the initiative at a September 20 meeting, scheduled for 11:30 am at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center, 3031 Highway 180 East. Light refreshments will be served.
