WNMU Students Receive 24 Club Scholarships

Silver City, NM – Western New Mexico University students Catherine Stailey and Tara Straubinger were selected to receive the 24 Club/Betty Cook Memorial Scholarship and the 24 Club/Chris Drangmeister Memorial Scholarship, respectively.
 
Stailey is double majoring in chemistry and cell/molecular biology, and Straubinger is majoring in elementary education.
          
Established in 1952 as a memorial to Betty Cook, the first original club member to pass away, the 24 Club/Betty Cook Memorial Scholarship is granted in memory of all deceased club members. Grant County female graduates of Silver, Cobre or Cliff High Schools earning a G.P.A. of 3.4 or higher are eligible for the scholarship.
 
The 24 Club/Chris Drangmeister Memorial Scholarship is named in memory of Christine Davis Drangmeister, an esteemed public school educator.  Grant County female sophomores, juniors, or seniors earning a G.P.A. of 3.4 or higher and accepted into the WNMU College of Education program are eligible.
 
A philanthropic, service organization serving Grant County for over 60 years, the 24 Club established these scholarships to enhance academic opportunities for local women at WNMU.
 
Western New Mexico University has served the people of the state of New Mexico and its surrounding areas as a comprehensive, regional, rural, public coeducational university since 1893 and serves a student body diverse in age, culture, language and ethnic background.
