Dear Concerned Citizens,

You were warned up front that many Public Input statements made in the school board meetings contained "Rumor," i.e. unverified allegations; that is, homework missing, and if you repeat it or agree with it, you endorse it. Don't presume these statements are facts. Question them; do your research.

Rumor: the district could be a million dollars short. Stone McGee & Co. (auditing firm) recently gave the district a glowing report on its financial audit. Did it miss a million dollar mistake? Explanation: the district has upgraded in many areas for two years. Software changes caused a glitch that was hunted down and corrected. Not a dime missing, but the rumor persists.

Other rumors: a 1-year contract means years or permanence, unless the district is being unfair. Or, any disagreement by administrators is automatically rude, harassing, or loud; but similar behavior at board meetings by anyone who disagrees with them is necessary eloquence. They shouldn't take offense.

Should you take sides and become emotional before you check out the facts? Is your thinking so dependent that you presume truth and 'rubber stamp' ideas without checking? When others think for you, could you possibly be misled or mistaken? Such irresponsibility is rampant in Grant County. Presumption doesn't lead to reality or greater freedom.

Go to the source. Ask hard questions privately. Do clapping and cheering determine truth for you? Do accusations prove guilt? Maybe truth isn't worth the effort. In mob rule, emotions are more important than facts. Think about it.
