Some comments on the article "Maybe you don't know everything you think you know":
Western violates state law in the number of athletic scholarships they award. State stature 12-1-2D, limits Western to 140 athletic scholarships. Western awards over 200. Even if you fictionalize the scholarships ( two students each get half a scholarship) , Western still exceeded the 140 limit last year. Also, fictionalizing the scholarships brings up the issue of which out-of-state student get to claims in-state tuition.
This article, also, brings up the subject of how the athletic program penetrates the whole University, drawing resources from all areas in order to support the athletic program. Is academics or athletics more important to what is supposed to be an educational institution?
