In the Mimbres, Highway 35 is a popular route for bicycling enthusiasts. Highway 35 is a narrow, winding, twisting two-lane road with numerous blind spots, an open range section where cattle roam freely and in many places no shoulder to seek safety in.

Highway 35 is heavily traveled with cars, trucks with cattle trailers, RVs , trucks pulling heavy equipment, etc. Most of the bicyclists are considerate, traveling single-file whenever vehicles are approaching.

I am an advocate of sharing the road, unlike the four individuals seen in this photo taken from my vehicle on Easter morning. They refused to get over for vehicles to pass safely.

These individuals are creating a growing resentment of bicyclists on Highway 35. Last year a bicyclist was hit and killed by a motorist on Highway 15. I do not know the circumstances but the bottom line was a dead bicyclist.

It would be appropriate that these inconsiderate individuals be ticketed for obstructing traffic and have a wheel appropriated, which they can retrieve at the Grant County Sheriff's Office. This might make them rethink about hogging the road or sharing it or influence them to bike in another county.
