Energy Commentary from Marita Noon: The Best Renewable Energy Investment

Greetings!

I hope you had a wonderful fourth of July and enjoyed the freedoms that are unique to America. We fired up the smoker, I made a pot of beans and grilled corn on the cob. With friends, we had a beautiful celebration.

But that was Saturday. My mother arrived after midnight on Thursday, and Friday, after sleeping in late, we prepped for the party. Why is that relevant to you? Because, after writing a "bonus" column last week, I woke up Friday morning with absolutely no idea what to write on for this week's column. While I was still in bed, it hit me.

During the past week, I'd received three different emails from folks in my network. One was an article from National Review titled: How subsidizing old clean tech can stymie new clean tech. Another from Fortune.com: The lonely energy projects left behind by the clean energy evolution. Additionally, I'd been sent a link to the S-1 filing for Sunrun. On Friday I printed out both articles and skimmed the S-1 for relevant portions, which I, then, printed out as well. On Saturday, between party prep, I searched for news stories about Sunrun's IPO. Success! After church and Sunday brunch, I went outside to read the Sunrun news stories and the pages from the S-1. Omigosh! There was so much there! The Fortune and National Review pieces, while inspirational, fell by the wayside.

Sunday afternoon I had fun writing The best renewable energy investment (Attached and pasted-in-below)-I hope you can tell that when you read it. Before I started writing, I told my friend Tim (who I quote in the column): "I am not sure I can do a full 900 words on this, but it is going to be good." The final is 1400+ words and I never even addressed the Solar Renewable Energy Certificates listed in the S-1. I could have easily written 2000 words just off of the S-1.

Because of the S-1 theme, I chose The best renewable energy investment as the title. But also came up with Your vote is the best renewable energy investment and Solar's stunning growth is thanks to you. Assuming you post this week's column, please feel free to use whichever title you feel will work the best for your readers-or one of your own making.

Using their own words, The best renewable energy investment, makes clear that the solar industry, especially its "stunning growth," cannot survive without a favorable regulatory environment. Please post it, pass it on and/or personally enjoy it.
