Hello All,

Apparently, a number of people, both here in Grant County and elsewhere, consider the topic of our Community Conversation, "Opposing Violent Means to Political Ends" to be timely and relevant.

This issue held the attention of the nation for several weeks and held a small rural community - with similarities to our own - captive. Burns, Oregon must now begin to recover from this unrequested and unwelcome armed takeover that has disrupted their town, lives, security, social fabric, and economy.

The return of Mr. Sewell to Grant County, after having publicly signed a document and vowed to stay the course taken by LaVoy Finicum and the Bundys, presents us in Grant County with an opportunity to raise our voices - in unity - to express our desire that there be no repetition of disruption or violence - actual or threatened - here in Grant County as there was in Burns, Oregon.

We are reaching out to the ranching community to find someone to share that valuable perspective. We understand that local ranchers have made it known to the Forest Service that they don't support armed confrontation as happened in Burns. We applaud that and welcome this viewpoint to the Community Conversation.

However, regardless of whether or not we find a panelist among the local ranching community in time, the event is intended to be a dialogue with community members and all who wish to attend, express their views, and raise their voices "Opposing Violent Means to Political Ends" are welcome.

We hope you will join us Tuesday evening, 16 February 2016 / 7 - 9pm at WNMU / Global Resource Center.
