Dear Editor:

The WNMU nursing program is expending, the public needs to know how the nursing program at Western has degenerated in the past few years. The nursing industry judges a nursing program by the first time pass rate of the program's students.

In 2011, Western's pass rate was at the 73rd percentile in New Mexico, which means that Western's pass rate was higher than 73% of the schools in New Mexico. In 2012, the pass rate dropped to the 20th percentile, Western being only higher than 20% of the schools. In 2013, Western was at the 9th percentile, only better than 9% of the schools. In 2014, Western was at the 17th percentile, only better than 17% of the schools.

Western's pass rate in 2014 was 72%. The state average was 82.4% and national average was 82.9%. There appears to be some problem in the nursing program and Western should acknowledge it and fix it.

All of these figures can be found on the New Mexico Board of Nursing Website.
