History tells us that voter apathy can bring down a nation, while a third party in the U.S. always throws the election to the liberals/progressives. The problems facing us in NM are not new problems, the Republican and Democrat Parties have not been listening to grass roots for decades. This is partly because we, and our parents before us, often neglected our civic responsibilities and did not require accountability of party officials or of elected local, state, and federal officials. People have not attended meetings, have not cast well-informed votes by researching the background of all the candidates and issues on the ballot, have not taken the time to be delegates, and have not sacrificed time and money to volunteer during election seasons.

The past cannot be changed, but the future has yet to be written. Now is not the time to quit trying. Now is not the time to give up hope in the two-party system that our forefathers gave us. We've lost a few battles, true, but we can still win the war! We just need to pull together and face today's problems.

I choose to be part of the solution. I have the opportunity to influence my party's politics as a delegate to the State GOP Convention. The Founding Fathers gave us a constitution and system of government that requires personal involvement. It takes work to remain free and prosperous. It's our state, our country, our government; we must work to keep it honest, fair, and free of corruption. I encourage voters to become involved, read the party platforms, research district, state, and federal candidates' voting records and backgrounds, and cast educated votes.

Respectfully,
