I was pleased that my home town (Grant County) showed its support for the tragedy in Orlando, FL(my home now). These past few days have been horrific for this town, and also very uplifting in that the people have united and poured out for the families who lost their loved ones.

This did not happen in a dingy night club in a "bad" part of town. This happened in DOWNTOWN Orlando, in a place where no one would have predicted such a thing.

Fortunately, Orlando Regional Hospital is only two blocks away so many of the victims were carried to the emergency room by friends and others who were there. The hospital also has one of the best level one trauma centers in the Southeast so many lives were saved because of the fine care available there.

There was a vigil here (Orlando) at 7 p.m. Monday night as well, at the performing arts center front lawn. Several thousand people attended. Five thousand pints of blood were donated in a 6-hour period and there are at least as many people waiting in line to donate.

My thanks to all of Grant County for the show of sympathy, may God Bless, and pray that it never happens in Grant County.
