Dear Editor:

I would like to see the Broadway intersection stop light STAY in place for this reason; Both solutions, signs and lights, are only as effective as the community demonstrates careful and law-abiding behavior. However, a red or green (or yellow) light makes it far more clear as to whose turn it is and how long you have to cross the street either by foot or car.

Stop signs require everyone to look around and see who has the right of way and many times it isn't clear because it takes Gǣtoo much timeGǥ to determine that! Folks are too anxious to get their turn. This is particularly dangerous for pedestrians, who many times are not considered in the equation, if they are even seen at all. And, sometimes it's the pedestrian who doesn't take their turn properly.

The color of the light and consequently the right-of-way is emphatic, easier and faster to determine, and so safer than any stop signs, 2-way or 4-way. I suggest that the lights prevail. And, I think we need more monitoring and more citations if that is possible, and definitely more education to see if we can get drivers and pedestrians to have more concern for safety, their own and that of their neighbors.
