Dear Editor:

As a lifelong resident of Grant County, with the exception of a few years that my husband, children and I lived in Lordsburg, I felt it necessary to write something about the upcoming Commissioners Race in November.

My dad worked for Kennecott for several years and then began working for Texas New Mexico Power, now known as PNM where he retired. My mom was an accountant and became very popular with the local car dealerships here in Grant County. I was born and raised here. Mining, ranching and farming are the backbone of our County. My husband has served in Law Enforcement for 30 years, 17 of which have been here in GC.

This election does hit hard; it is especially nerve racking when you have 3 individuals that have made certain comments and voiced opinions that certainly no way appear to come from a true GC resident!

Traditional Democrats-Whom I know and respect have often faced great opposition even from within their own party at times. I believe they know that people are more important than holding onto power....

(This was a transcript taken primarily on April 5, 2016, of the three progressive candidates, Alicia Edwards, Harry Browne, and Marilyn Alcorn).

Edwards said: "There is a reason for all 3 of us running and it is exactly what you said and hope that all 3 of us would get elected and create a wave of change. We're all Democrats...ummm...we are affiliated...well, we're running as Democrats-let me put it that way."

Browne said: "The idea of having 3 in itself is very powerful. You could see the instant changes."

Edwards: "We are trying to build a movement here not just get elected."

Alcorn said: "It is going to be my duty to make sure big money, powerful people in powerful places don't have the opportunity to exert their influence into our county." Harry Browne said: "Think globally and act locally has formed my life." Harry Browne also said: "We have all mentioned big money influence. I think we know big money influence is already here in GC. Phelps Dodge, now Freeport MacMoRan really runs the show in a lot of ways."

The Progressive Candidates have taken big money from as far away as Berlin, Germany.

Here are a few more bits they said:
*Divorce PNM
*Decriminalization of Drug Use
*$15 minimum wage
*Stop the exportation of Food
*Socialist Job Creation

Traditional Democrats' tradition is to work towards a better society. They advocate for sustaining the lives, health and emotional well being of every person.

The core beliefs of the Republican Party are centered on the ideas that each person is responsible for his/her own place within society. That also means that the party believes in keeping the government as close to the individual as possible and should be focused mainly on the state and community level, not centered at a federal level.

Browne said: "Think globally - act locally!"

The economy needs to be able to grow! We support public access to public lands for hunting, fishing and recreational shooting etc.

Edwards, Alcorn, and Browne are endorsed by the Sierra Club. Please research the Sierra Club.

These candidates clearly have no respect for our Farmers, Ranchers and Mining Industry'the backbones of Grant County. How do they truly feel about our youth, the next generation of Future Farmers, Ranchers and Miners? FFA and 4-H? They have made their agenda known and they are well organized and funded by special interests outside of Grant County.

Grant County residents, please research, please look into Republican candidates. Billy Billings is a lifelong resident of Grant County with strong values, supports farming, ranching and our mining industry. He supports Law Enforcement. He is committed to keeping the Gila National Forest open to the public for multiple use.

Harry Pecotte is a lifelong resident who supports economic growth, is committed to being a voice for Grant County Citizens, and supports our mining industry, with public safety a high priority.
Henry Torres, born in Grant County, has served as Commissioner and is committed to Farming and Ranching. He supports economic growth and job creations and our mining industry.

None of these candidates is funded by special interest groups!!

Whether you are Republican or a Democrat, you need to realize that the three, Edward, Alcorn and Browne are not Democrats! They are using the Democratic Party to gain the ability to do what they have hidden in their agenda. They want to take away our hunting rights, close roads, close forests and wilderness, do away with wood cutting, cattle grazing, ranching and farming, as well as shut down the mining industry.

"Politics is the art of the possible, the attainable-the art of the next best."
Otto Von Bismarck

PLEASE VOTE NOVEMBER 8, 2016 BILLY BILLINGS, HARRY PECOTTE and HENRY TORRES.
