In response to the editorial on NPR and PBS:

Defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting would be a grave disservice to our country. In addition to the news that the editorial writer doesn't like, CPB also helps fund Sesame Street and many other educational programs.

The writer stated, GÇ£Why should someone who doesn't use those services... have any of their money taken from them and given to a service which exists to please people who can afford to pay for the service themselves?GÇ¥

Not everyone who uses PBS and NPR can afford to make donations. Many low-income families rely on Sesame Street and other programs as an educational alternative to mindless cartoons.

Perhaps the writer also believes that people without children should not have to pay taxes for public schools? Or that our national parks should be funded solely by entrance fees?

Public broadcasting is a miniscule part of the federal budget, roughly equivalent to someone with a $40,000 income going out for a burger. I see no need to skip lunch.
