Dear Editor:

GÇ£What is Bridge Community anyway?GÇ¥ GÇ£ Is it a card club?GÇ¥ Questions we've been asked more than once.

NO!! It is not a card club. It's a dream'a dream we intend to make a reality! It is a dream is to create a retirement center offering 6 levels of care'GÇ£spanning life's transitionsGÇ¥'from independent, assisted living and memory care through end of life care on a single campus. This will serve folks 55 years and older or persons with some disability who may still be fairly independent but have difficulty maintaining a private home. They may be widowed or single persons living alone who would like a more secure environment but still wish to be physically and socially active.

Vision or mobility issues also make it hard to remain totally independent. Some need help with medications, bathing, dressing or caring for personal hygiene while others may need constant medical/nursing care.

Couples are often separated because one spouse needs a level of care the other cannot provide. While one receives care, the other may be miles away or even in another town. BC seeks to keep them together - at least within shouting distance.

Home caregivers need a break, too, to shop, see a doctor, get a haircut or care for their own needs. BC also hopes to add respite and adult day care for these folks.

Challenge: Help Bridge Community make the dream come true. Ways you can help.
