Albuquerque, NM - Recently, Congressman Steve Pearce has called on President Donald Trump to support a plan to build a new oil refinery in New Mexico and bring some much-needed job opportunities to our state. As of yet, his call has not been joined by any Democrats in the congressional delegation, including Michelle Lujan Grisham, who has announced her intentions to run for governor in 2018.

Radical environmentalists including former Albuquerque Mayor Jim Baca are opposing Congressman Pearce's call, claiming that Pearce's job creation solution would be "planet killing."

"Congresswoman Lujan Grisham claims that as Governor she would bring jobs back to New Mexico, and yet she hasn't come out in favor of Congressman Pearce's call for the Trump administration's support of a new oil refinery in New Mexico," said Republican Party of New Mexico Spokesman Tucker Keene. "If Congresswoman Lujan Grisham wants to run on a message of improving our state, she must publicly reject the extreme rhetoric coming from her environmentalist supporters and support the oil and gas industry that has brought so many jobs to New Mexico."

The jobs brought by a new oil refinery would be stable, plentiful and high paying, and result in lower gasoline prices across our state.

"Congresswoman Lujan Grisham has a choice," said Keene. "She can either pander to her far-left base, or recognize the needs of her prospective constituents and support the high quality jobs and lower energy prices an oil refinery would bring to New Mexico."
