Albuquerque, NM - Today, the Republican Party of New Mexico released the following statement in response to Sen. Martin Heinrich joining the Democrat's unprecedented partisan filibuster of Supreme Court nominee Judge Neil Gorsuch:

"The petty and reflexive partisanship of Democrats like Sen. Heinrich have forced the Republican majority to build upon the precedent set four years ago by Democrat Sen. Harry Reid and make an historic change to the rules of the Senate," said Republican Party of New Mexico Spokesman Tucker Keene. "Never before has the filibuster been used to obstruct a president's supreme court pick on purely partisan grounds, nor was it ever intended to be used for that purpose. Heinrich offered no reasonable explanation for his decision to filibuster Judge Gorsuch because there was no explanation possible other than partisan politics. Judge Gorsuch was exceptionally well vetted, has impeccable qualifications, and has an unimpeachable judicial record. He will make an excellent Supreme Court Justice."
